About the Program

The Junkonoo Youth Orchestra & Choir (JYOC) seeks to enrich the lives of those involved through the pursuit of musical excellence and social change. The JYOC opportunities are designed to educate, inspire, build confidence, and develop skills in teamwork and leadership, while at the same time raising awareness to the complex beauty of classical music.   We think music brings an essential contribution to the development of personality, by stimulating intellect and at the same time championing inclusivity and understanding. We want to introduce young people to the subtleties of musical style in order to awaken their listening and learning skills. We also want to develop the link between classical music and a wider more youthful audience.
We will teach young people the foundational principles of the classical musical style and also teach them how to play a musical instrument. The choir will be taught to sing all parts, including soprano, alto, tenor and bass (SATB) in a combination that will release great choral voices.   Through this program we are given the opportunity to organize concerts in neighborhoods where the children come from. Bringing life and culture to the district and getting the community involved in the positive development of their young members. Our objective is to create local activity around the cultural event being organized. To do this, we set up partnership policies with storekeepers and local business owners. Our students will even take part in publicizing the event and selling tickets, giving them the chance to interact with people within their communities.  All of these actions will create a strong link between the inhabitants and the local services available to them. Bringing together people who live in the district is a significant feature of the IRIE Foundations. By linking our members with the community we are helping achieve an encouraging and educational environment where the students can thrive.
